Memorial Day Weekend up at the Cabin.

We had an eventful and memorable Memorial Day weekend; we decided to go up to Soldier Creek to Grandma and Grandpa Johnson’s cabin. Originally there was supposed to be a lot of family going up. However, as of Thursday Grandma wasn’t sure if there would be water or not. Because of this most of the family either decided not to go, or only came up for the day. We were not aware that most people were not coming up, so we decided to take our travel trailer. It wasn’t a big deal and we didn’t sleep in it.
We had a fun night on Friday. Both Jeff and Riley came up Friday. Our kids love to play with their cousins and I wondered if they were ever going to settle down and go to bed. Saturday morning came and to our surprise Jeff was up cooking breakfast. We spent the day burning and hauling off wood from the cabin grounds. Grandpa had the dead pine trees cut down last year. The people who cut the trees down hauled out the big stuff but left all the branches and small pieces of wood. We thought the project would take a few hours, but after 13 trailer loads of wood, a fire that almost caught the surrounding trees on fire, and 12 hours later we had almost finished the job. I say almost because we were so tired we just stopped.
Sunday morning brought once again Jeff and Riley cooking dinner. Grandma and Grandpa Johnson, Grandma Val, and Age came up on Sunday. The kid’s absolutely loved the time spent with Grandma, Age, and their cousins. I wish we were all able to spend more time together, but things like work and busy schedules seem to get in the way. We had a good day. Finished burning piles of wood. Once again almost burnt the forest down. We were scrambling to get the hose up to the fire. When Jeff Park took the hose as far as he could he was about 30 feet from the fire. He put his thumb over the opening and it squirted another 10 feet. Luckily there was more hose in the shed.
The kids hounded us to go crawdad fishing. We tried to put them off but finally gave in. We went down to the dock and froze in the wind. I guess it was to cold for the crawdads also. Jake was the only one to catch one and when we finally told the kids we were leaving the all begun to cry. We still went back to the cabin.
Sunday night was the never ending night. The stomach flu bug was passed around. All four of our kids were up all night throwing up. Jeff’s kids were, along with Riley’s, and also Jeff and April’s two boys. After Liana, as Grandpa Ed put it “Bouncing around like a rubber ball all night, going from this kid to that one” had been up all night we decided to go home early. We did want to but the kids were throwing up. Jeff and Riley left also. Grandma was upset and felt bad but we had had a wonderful time and this didn’t take away from that. With the kids throwing up all the way we finally made it home. It is always good to be home.

Hey, I heard that Grandma and Jeff got the bug last night. Yuck! Todd, you, me, and Zach may be the only ones who made it out of there alive!
